It’s 3 a.m. and you’ve got class in the morning.. Well in a few hours. Oh 3 a.m., we haven’t missed you!
At one point or another, everyone’s been there: laying in bed, trying to get some rest but it’s just not happening. You’ve tried counting sheep but it’s just not happening. Falling asleep seems like one of the easiest things to do, but can be hard when you’re tired and crabby and you’ve got a million things around you distracting you (*cough cough cell phone*). As of recently, I’ve been having a real hard time falling asleep at night and I want to share a few things that may help you fall asleep, which have helped me!
Make yourself a warm drink
Cliché maybe, but it works. A warm drink is something that helps get you in the mood for bed. Avoid coffee (and even some tea’s) otherwise you’ll be up all night. Green tea is awesome and has other great health benefits for you, chamomile tea will also help lul you to sleep. My personal favorite is hot chocolate. Hot chocolate also helps satisfy my sweet tooth, but is definitely not the healthiest option if looking for a warm drink before bed. Drinking hot drinks before bed is especially great during the winter months.
Listen to soft music
Sometime’s playing soft music can help you fall right asleep. Creating a playlist filled with acoustic songs can help you doze off. White noise and rain sounds are great for falling asleep because they’re repetitive and can help you doze off. Spotify, Pandora, and Apple Music all have great stations to listen to if you don’t feel like creating your own. Tip: this is also something I love to do when studying, ironically. The music calms my mind and helps me focus.
Read a book
While I don’t really find this conducive for myself, a handful of people I know live by this. Put down your phone and close any other electronics you have and read a book instead. Reading helps stimulate your brain. The light from your screen will keep you up later than intended, so just turn it off! What I’ve started to do is instead of having my phone next to me while sleeping, I’ll leave it on my side table or desk and let it charge. Out of sight, out of mind! Plus, when you wake up it’ll be fully charged!
Did any of these methods work for you? Or maybe you have something you already do that you love! Comment below and let me know!
