Hey everybody! I was fortunate enough to receive a package filled with Mixed Chicks goodies because I was one of the winners from the Andrea Lewis Mixed Chicks giveaway. I was super excited to receive the package because I used the products when I was younger, but they weren’t an absolute favorite, so I haven’t dabbled with the products since. Over the years I’ve heard increasingly great things about the products/company and was excited to try them.
For those of you who don’t already know, Mixed Chicks is made in the USA, cruelty free, vegan and does NOT engage in animal testing. Their products are also formulated and targeted for people of all nationalities and hair types. Love it! Now let me give you some background on my hair. Although it’s in very good health/condition now, 2016 was a bad year for my 3c curls. It started with damage from a flat iron in January, to then dying my hair blonde in May and then back to black in September. Since last September, I’ve been working really hard to regain my natural curl pattern and the health of my hair.
Here’s how I’ll rank the items:
Love it – Like it – No thanks
Run out and buy this! – It’s okay, probably would recommend. – Not good, don’t buy this stuff.
Mixed Chicks Paddle Brush: Love it!
This is definitely my favorite thing I received in the package. Normally I will use a regular Revlon paddle brush to brush through my curls. Let me tell you, I could instantly tell the difference brushing through my curls while using this! I have never enjoyed brushing my hair so much. It works amazing when detangling my curls! And this brush shortened the amount of time it normally takes for me to brush through my hair significantly. You can buy the Mixed Chicks Paddle Brush here for $8.99.
Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner: Love it!
This is one of the Mixed Chicks products I have used in the past and really enjoyed, so I was excited to see this in the package. This product is meant to nourish, detangle, and restore your curls. I use this after shampooing and detangling my curls on my wet head, so that the product can penetrate my hair. Depending on what I’m doing/where I’m going, I’ll leave it in for 10-30 minutes. The scent is clean and this product could work great as a detangler and moisturizer. Although I have used other deep conditioners that I do like more, you can’t beat quality for the price of the Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner. You can buy it here for $10.99.
Mixed Chicks Replenishing Oil: Like it!
The Mixed Chicks replenishing oil is derived from all natural essential oils. If you are solely using the line of Mixed Chicks, I could see how this would be useful and play a vital role in how your curls look. This did make my hair feel soft, and helped keep the frizz to a minimum. I definitely feel like I could do without this, but it’s nice to have in my product bag.You can buy this product here for $14.99.
Mixed Chicks Daily Hair Dress: No thanks!
I personally wasn’t a huge fan of the Mixed Chicks Daily Hair Dress. Although it kept my curls nicely defined, my hair felt like it was being smothered by product. This product was super thick and left quite a bit of buildup in my hair, which I don’t like. It did leave my curls looking very defined which was nice. I don’t know if this would work better with a tighter curl type, or for someone who has thicker hair. I wouldn’t go out of my way to repurchase this. You can buy it here for $8.00.
Overall, I’d say I like Mixed Chicks and their products. You can see in that (silly) photo above that there was definitely still frizz, which I normally don’t have on Day 1. I would definitely be open to trying their other items from the brand though. Have you tried any of these products?
